INUKA Southern Highlands CBR is a Rehabilitation Hospital with the aim to provide high quality health services to people with disabilities and other patients with rehabilitation needs, involving their families and the communities they are living in.
Established in 2008 by the Catholic Diocese of Njombe in cooperation with partner organizations, the service was initially organized in 5 community rehabilitation centers located in Njombe region.
In 2011 a Referral Rehabilitation Center and hostel were inaugurated due to growing demand and with the aim to meet the needs of patients coming from distant rural areas of southern Tanzania. The compound is situated in Wanging’ombe (Njombe Region), on the main road to Mbeya.
Constantly evolving over the years, the Rehabilitation Centre has been equipped with an orthopaedic workshop for the production of prostheses, orthoses and other assistive device, a General Practice department to meet the health needs of the surrounding community, and a Pharmacy.
A multidisciplinary team of Tanzanian professionals, supported by volunteers and experts from abroad, are working at Inuka contributing to ensure a holistic and comprehensive approach of care.
In 2019 the Ministry of Health assigned a new status to Inuka, upgrading it to a Rehabilitation Hospital.
Today Inuka CBR offers health and rehabilitation services treating patients with orthopaedic, neurological and medical needs, assisting approximately 2000 children with disabilities a year and producing and delivering assistive devices.
INUKA CBR visualizes a society with fewer occurrences of disability, where every needy person enjoys the right to rehabilitation.

Head office of the project is in Wanging’ombe (Njombe Region), on the main road to Mbeya. In the compound of the Rehabilitation Hospital there is also an Hostel, in order to accommodate the patients and their family members.
There is also a coordination office for the Outreach Program wich assists more than 300 disabled children.
Our staff is composed by motivated rehabilitation and healthcare professionals with multiple years of experience in the sector.
We support continues professional development through training on the job to and dedicated training sessions for our staff at all levels.
